East Liberty · $$ · No. 34 of 157 overall
Mexico City-style tacos that taste like the real deal. Counter-casual; the al pastor is the order.
Order: Tacos al pastor off the trompo
- 2Las Palmas4.2
Beechview · $ · No. 35 of 157 overall
Tacos out of a grocery counter that beat most sit-down spots. Cheap, fast, the real thing. The line's the only downside.
Order: Tacos al pastor out of a grocery counter

Shadyside · $$ · No. 103 of 157 overall
Plenty of locals will tell you this is the best Mexican in the city, and they've got a point. The blue-corn tortillas are pressed in-house and actually taste like corn, the al pastor with pineapple salsa is the order, and the tequila list is no joke. Colorful, loud, a little upscale. A reliably great taco-and-margarita night on Ivy Street.
Order: Al pastor taco on a house blue-corn tortilla
- 4El Burro3.4
North Side · $$ · No. 110 of 157 overall
Bright, casual tacos and margaritas near the ballpark. Easy and fun, not destination Mexican.
Order: Tacos & margaritas before a game
- 5
Lawrenceville · $$ · No. 134 of 157 overall
The Butler Street patio that started the block's whole second act. Tacos are solid rather than transcendent, the margaritas are the actual draw, and on a warm night it's the best seat in Lawrenceville.
Order: Tacos and a margarita on the patio

Mt. Lebanon · $$ · No. 156 of 157 overall
Solid South Hills tacos and a big margarita list. Reliable neighborhood Mexican, not a reason to cross town.
Order: Tacos & a flight of margaritas
