  1. 1

    Squirrel Hill · $$ · No. 49 of 157 overall

A genuine French patisserie on Murray Ave where the macarons look like jewelry and actually taste like something. Skip the line at the diners across the street and get a box of these instead. The pistachio is the one. Pricey for a cookie, but these aren't cookies.

Order: Pistachio macaron and a proper almond croissant

  2. 2

    Downtown · $ · No. 53 of 157 overall

Genuinely excellent small-batch scoops. Seasonal flavors, salted caramel the standby. Just ice cream, done right.

    Order: Salted caramel scoop

  3. 3

    South Side · $ · No. 64 of 157 overall

A summer soft-serve ritual by the river. Nostalgia and a genuinely good twist. Exactly what it should be.

Order: Soft-serve twist by the river

  4. 4

    Downtown · $$$ · No. 139 of 157 overall

The Bridges & Bourbon team built a moody little jewel box in the Cultural District where dessert is the headliner, not the afterthought. The sage olive oil cake and lemon ricotta doughnuts sing; just know the wine-by-the-glass list ran thinner than the branding promised early on. A lovely nightcap stop before the show.

Order: Lemon ricotta doughnuts with a glass of something old-world
